Employability Skills Update

The ‘Reframing the Future’ project has identified Employability Skills as a priority area in need of resources that will help educators understand the implications and responsibilities associated with the introduction of Employability Skills into all new training packages.

They've produced a new CD that helps you go straight to the information you want. It's organised around 4 Questions:

What the Employability Skills agenda is and where has it come from?
What is required for planning, delivery, assessment and reporting?
What skills does the VET workforce need to assist students to progress their Employability Skills?
What Professional Development is required? *

Whether you know nothing or a lot about Employability Skills you’ll find something here. There is everything from a basic run down on what Employability Skills cover, to resources to help you modify your existing assessments and record evidence.

There's a great Self Assessment* tool for you to consider your own Employability Skills, and of course much much more.

It's one of the most user friendly resources we've seen on Employability Skills. Just ask the Library staff for a copy and off you go!

What's Montie?

Montie is the new video subscription service from SafetyCare Australia. It allows you to watch all 76 titles from this company who specialises in occupational health and safety.

This program is loaded onto two machines in the Library, just ask at the ELZ desk if you would like to use it. Then it’s as easy as opening the program and clicking on the video you would like to watch.

Enjoy!

Employability Skills

Employability Skills have been or are being integrated into every Training Package … This is because industry representatives have identified them as being essential for success in today’s workforce. There are 8 Employability Skills:
Communication,
Teamwork,
Problem solving,
Initiative and enterprise,
Planning and organising,
Self-management,
Learning and
Technology

(Nearly) Everything you need to know can be found at:
http://employabilityskills.training.com.au/
Contains the Employability Skills summaries website, a search engine that will give you a run down on what is expected for each qualification

http://www.employabilityskillsresources.com/
A website designed to give the VET sector access to Employability Skills resources such articles, pamphlets, information sheets and presentations.

Bremer staff can also access the BLT on the intranet for Employability Skills resources.

Welcome to new students! Welcome back to continuing students!

There are changes to our lending rules. Students can borrow
  • more items
  • for longer

BUT….you must return them before or on the due date otherwise the items will be regarded as ‘lost’ and an invoice will be automatically generated by another government department. Try not to get into this situation.

We will be experimenting with sending a SMS reminder before the due date and/or an email and possibly a letter. But this will only happen once. Ask staff to check that you library account contains your mobile phone number and email address .

Remember: If you’ve borrowed something from the library, it will probably be needed by other students. It’s only fair that everyone can get the resources they need. Please help us, help everyone succeed in their studies.

Best Wishes for 2008
Christine

Brilliant in its simplicity

Have a look at The Arrival a graphic novel by Shaun Tan. He shares with the read the challenges of communication for new arrivals when confronted with a new destination, where the words and the world are unknown.

Tan paints an evocative picture of isolation and wonder without the use of words. Students of communication, graphic arts, community service, language and literacy could appreciate this complex but brilliantly presented book.

Do yourself a favour! Drop into the lounge area of the Bundamba library and take a few minutes to share the experiences of the The Arrivals. It will help you discover new dimensions to understanding cross cultural communication.
